Another year, another post :-D --on my apparently politically charged blog...
My friend, Beth Cooper-Zobott, pointed to this Seth Godin post on the political expedience, however fleeting, however futile, of peddling intolerance to the madding crowds. Excellent points as per usual from Seth.
He does, however, betray a forgivable, US-centric political ignorance.
In a 2-party system such as in the US, xenophobia may be a self-defeating, short-term strategy.
However, in countries with multi-party systems where parties lacking a majority composed a government by coalition, it can be a viable, long-term strategy for a party to fan the flames of intolerance in order to gain attention and enough votes to grab power as at least a minority partner in a broader coalition government.
Evidenced sadly here in Denmark by the Danish People's Party.
